The public garden offers a pleasant connection between the medieval district and the high city. Of the belvedere called for a long time " Square of Trees " offers itself a panorama which seduced the romantic artists, " at sunset as in the moonlight ", according to Victor Hugo's words. Balzac, invited in Fougères by his friend General de Pommereul, was inspired by this site during the final episode of his work " The Chouans ". In the entrance of the public garden is held the City hall (1535).
