The history of Les Ateliers goes back to about ten centuries. From the 11th century, the work of the leather is a tradition in Fougères with the setting-up of the first tanners on the banks of Nançon in the medieval quarter. Limited to a craft activity till the end of the 19th century, the industrial revolution directs this production to a mono-industry, making Fougères the capital of the shoe. The population increases considerably. About sixty factories of shoes are implanted.

Les Ateliers, old factory of shoes Réhault, shelters the House of Associations as well as national careers guidance centre, Right of citizenship association and the Local Mission today.

A permanent exhibition in the reception hall (machines, photos, panels...) redraw the industrial epic of the city.
