The ministry of Tourism created in 2001 the certification “Tourism and Handicap”for the disabled.
This national “label” is symbolised by a logo which represents a house with the 4handicaps(for the physically, visually, hearing and mentally handicapped persons).
The certification aims to give reliable information about the accessibility of the holidays and leisure places (accommodation, catering, leisure and tourist sites, premises for tourist information…) for each type of handicap.
It takes into account the accessibility from the parking area to the interior of the site. It aims at guaranteeing the autonomy of the disabled during their holidays.
Each referenced site is given a certification process which includes the assessment of the site by two people representing the fields of tourism and handicap, the assessment by a regional committee and then by a national committee.
The certification is given for 5 years.
The Tourist Office of Fougères
The obtaining of the certification was included in the Plan of Action 2008/2011 of the Tourist Office of Fougères,if possible for the 4 main handicaps (hearing, mental, physical and visual).
The process started in May 2008 and has been realised by obtaining the certification for the 4 handicaps in July 2011.
